VIRGINIA WING (VAWG) HONOR GUARD INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL


MISSION Honor our Military, past and present, with dignity and respect.

VISION To prepare Civil Air Patrol Cadets to promote the Mission, be ambassadors for CAP, and instruct in the Honor Guard traditions.

PROGRAM GOALS To achieve its mission and vision, the VAWG Honor Guard Instructor program pursues the following goals :

(1) Promote Honor Guard excellence in cadet programs.

(2) Provide a quality experience for HGA graduates to further their Honor Guard education by learning to lead and instruct other cadets.

(3) Develop a strong sense of individual confidence in learning and performing Honor Guard ceremonies.

(4) Build and add to a VAWG Honor Guard instructor team to teach at future venues (i.e. VAWG Honor Guard College, 29 JUL - 5 AUG) and continue the outreach to our communites to serve where needed.


ELIGIBILITY The VAWG HONOR GUARD INSTRUCTOR SCHOOL is open to any CAP cadet who has previously graduated from MER Honor Guard Academy.

All individuals (cadets and seniors) wishing to participate must first receive approval from their unit.


SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS

A successful applicant is a cadet who has all registered online, emailed all completed paperwork into HGIS-da@vawg.cap.gov and has made payment or has made indication of payment by check.

Once your application has been accepted, you will receive an acceptance package including details on location, check-in, equipment needed, directions, graduation, and any further instructions.

CADET REQUIRED FORMS - HOW TO FILL THEM OUT

Please be advised all forms can be found in a fillable format at: https://www.capmembers.com/forms_publications__regulations/forms/

You are encouraged to fill out the forms and then save them to your computer. This way you always have the forms filled out and ready to be printed for signatures. Any time you have a change in information (i.e. name and dates of activity on the CAPF-31) you can go, fill in the changes and print it off.

All forms requiring signatures will need to be scanned in or photographed to email back into HGIS-da@vawg.cap.gov.

Should you not have access to a scanner or computer, please contact your local unit for assistance.

These forms allow us to avoid any unnecessary delays in getting you medical attention should you need it.

CAPF-31:

1. CADET MUST "wet" sign (actual signature in ink) on the front (bottom) of the form.

2. PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST "wet" sign (actual signature in ink) on the back of the form. Only one signature is necessary, but both parents may sign.

3. A WITNESS MUST "wet" sign (actual signature in ink) for each parent/guardian signature on the back of the form. One witness may sign for more than one parent/guardian signature.

4. SQUADRON COMMANDERS (or their Designees) MUST sign on the back of the form. This signature may be "wet" or may be electronic. This is the only signature that we may accept electronically. For the electronic signature, the Squadron Commander (or his/her designee) may send an email directly to HGIS-da@vawg.cap.gov (PLEASE NOTE THIS AN EMAIL CHANGE FROM PREVIOUS SCHOOLS).

CAPF-160:

1. ALL FIELDS on this form MUST be filled in with either information or "NONE". If a field is left blank, the form will be returned to you to be revised and your registration will not be considered "complete" until the form is returned and deemed "complete".

2. Please note the fields are as follows:

NAME, GRADE, CAPID, CHARTER NUMBER, DATE OF BIRTH, HEIGHT, WEIGHT, HAIR COLOR, EYE COLOR, GENDER, ALLERGIES, DO YOU NOW HAVE OR HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY OF THE FOLLOWING, DIETARY RESTRICTIONS OR LIMITATION, PAST SURGICAL HISTORY, 5 IMMUNIZATION fields, MEDICAL INFORMATION, and 3 SOCIAL HISTORY fields.

3. Please note that in the "DO YOU NOW HAVE OR HAVE YOU EVER HAD ANY OF THE FOLLOWING" section that you MUST check either YES or NO to every question. Any YES answers require an explanation for each to be made in the REMARKS section on the back of the form.

4. PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST "wet" sign (actual signature in ink) on the back of the form. Only one signature is necessary.

CAPF-161: This form requires only information. No signatures required.

CAPF-163: This form is only required if the cadet is under the age of 18 by 10 MAR 2017.

SENIOR MEMBER FORMS

Please submit a CAPF-160 and 161 to HGIS-da@vawg.cap.gov

These forms allow us to avoid any unnecessary delays in getting you medical attention should you need it.


ALL FORMS SHOULD BE EMAILED TO HGIS-DA@VAWG.CAP.GOV BY 15 MAY 2017.

Any problems submitting forms electronically should email HGIS-da@vawg.cap.gov directly.


FOOD AND BILLETING

Lodging will be provided in open-bay barracks, divided by gender and membership category (cadets/seniors). These barracks are equiped with a cot for each member. All participants must bring their own bedding (sheets/blankets or sleeping bag, pillowcase) and towels. It is suggested that you bring a chair and lockable foot locker to store your personal items in. A detailed equipment list will be sent out in your acceptance package.

Meals will be held in a dining facility on base. Each cadet is responsible for bringing enough money to cover $5.00 per meal. There will be 8 meals. (breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Saturday and Sunday and breakfast and lunch on Monday.)
